Unit 1: Athletics II
We will star the year with the Olympic sport's king, in it we will use the basic human skills: run, jump and throw.
We will practice some of the events we didn't practice last year.
Introduction
Summary
Athletics: the sports that include running, jumping, and throwing, in USA they call it track and field.
Field: an area of grass where you can play a sport, in athletics, where we jump and throw.
starting blocks: are a device used in the sport of track and field by sprint athletes to brace their feet against at the start of a race so they do not slip as they stride forwards at the sound of the starter's pistol.
Button: piece of tube runners uses in a relay race. Each runner must give it to the next teammate.
Shot put: a sports competition in which a heavy metal ball is thrown from the shoulder as far as possible
Discus: a heavy plate-shaped object that is thrown as part of a sports event
Hammer: in sport, a metal ball on a long steel handle for throwing.
Long jump: a sports contest in which people jump as far as possible
Triple jump: an athletic event in which competitors attempt to jump as far as possible by performing a hop, a step, and a jump from a running start.
High jump: a sports contest in which people jump over a bar which is raised until no-one can jump over it
Pole vault: a sport in which you use a very long stick to jump over a high bar
